Admissions for the Academic Year 2017-18

We understand that starting school is a big step for both children and their parents.  Here at St James’ we offer help and guidance to take you through the application process.

As required by law, all Essex Infant and Primary Schools provide for the full-time admission of all children offered a place in the Reception Year, from the September following their fourth birthday.  This means that you have the right to a full-time place at the school where your child is offered from September 2017.

Application Process

  • Apply online for your child to start school for the first time at essex.gov.uk/admissions. A booklet giving guidance will be sent direct to your home as soon as your child is eligible for a Primary School place.
  • St. James’ Church of England Primary School holds its own admissions criteria, therefore an application form must be downloaded and completed.
  • If you are applying under the Church or Faith Group criterion you will need to download and complete the Supplementary Information Form which must be signed by your Priest, Minister or Faith Group Leader on the back of the form.

Deadlines for applications for 2017-18 is 15th January 2017.  You can still apply but all applications received after this date will be treated as ‘late’.

The Next Step

Our Governors meet to discuss all applications and rank them according to our own criteria and liaise with Essex Admissions.  Parents are informed on the 18th April 2017 as to the outcome of their application and offered a Primary School place.
